At Cowal Accountants, I don’t offer off-the-shelf packages or generic templates. Every service I provide is delivered by me, personally—and tailored to fit the way you run your business.
Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been trading for years, I’ll work with you to make sure your accounts, tax, payroll, and VAT are handled properly—and that the advice you receive reflects your specific goals, challenges, and bookkeeping style.
Below, you’ll find an outline of the services I offer and typical pricing. These aren’t rigid bundles—they’re starting points for a conversation. If you’re not sure what you need or where to start, just get in touch. I’ll walk you through it.
Sole Trader Accounts & Self Assessment
From £399 — fixed fee
Being a sole trader doesn’t mean your accounts are simple—or that your accountant should treat them that way.
At Cowal Accountants, I take time to understand not just your numbers, but how you work. That means understanding your bookkeeping habits, the seasonality of your income, and where you want the business to go. It’s not just about filing a tax return—it’s about making sure it’s right, efficient, and works for you.
I’ll take your records—whether that’s QuickBooks, Xero, a spreadsheet, or a stack of invoices—and prepare a compliant set of accounts under UK accounting standards. From there, I convert your accounting profit into a taxable profit, making sure we claim every allowance available and take advantage of legitimate HMRC-approved tax strategies.
But what makes this service different is the conversation. I don’t leave everything to the end of the year. We’ll talk throughout—so when something changes in your business, we’ve already thought about the tax consequences before it’s too late to do anything about them.
Company Accounts & Director Self Assessment
From £664 — fixed fee
Running a limited company means more responsibilities—but also more opportunities to plan smarter.
At Cowal Accountants, I work with company directors to make sure both the business and you personally are handled with care. That means preparing your company accounts and Corporation Tax return, while also completing your personal Self Assessment—and making sure they complement each other, not clash.
I’ll help you strike the right balance between salary and dividends to ensure you pay the lowest correct amount of tax—and do so confidently. It’s not guesswork. It’s personalised, reviewed each year, and tailored to your income, lifestyle, and plans.
You’ll hear from me during the year—not just at filing time. Most of my company clients get a mid-year check-in, often face-to-face while I’m out and about around Cowal and Bute. We’ll talk about any big decisions, investments, or changes you’re planning, and how to structure them with tax in mind—not as an afterthought.
All Companies House filings are included as part of the service. I’ll prompt you when your Confirmation Statement is due, so nothing slips through the cracks.
You won’t be passed between departments or waiting for a junior to get back to you—every step, every question, every submission is handled by me.
VAT & Bookkeeping
VAT from £95 per quarter
Bookkeeping from £38/hour — tailored to your business
VAT and bookkeeping aren’t just compliance chores—they’re the backbone of accurate, confident decision-making. Done properly, they can save you time, money, and stress. Done poorly, they lead to mistakes and missed opportunities.
At Cowal Accountants, I make sure your VAT setup actually suits your business. Whether you’re using the Flat Rate Scheme, Standard VAT, or considering Cash Accounting, I’ll help you understand the difference—and whether a tax saving is possible by switching. I also handle new VAT registrations, deregistrations, and ensure you remain compliant with Making Tax Digital (MTD).
When it comes to bookkeeping, I don’t push one system—I work with what fits. Whether that’s QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or my own app for smaller clients, I’ll meet you where you are. Some clients want to do their own records, and I’ll support that with onboarding and training. Others want to hand it over entirely—and I’ll handle the lot.
Because no two businesses are the same, bookkeeping is the one service I don’t price as a fixed package online. It depends on volume, complexity, and what you want to handle in-house. But whether you’re sending spreadsheets or scanned receipts, I’ll make it work—and I’ll make it understandable.
Payroll
£380 per year (up to 3 staff, additional staff £45 each per year)
Discounted rates available for director-only payroll
Payroll can be surprisingly fiddly—even if you only have a handful of employees. From real-time information (RTI) submissions to pension contributions and net pay calculations, it’s one of those jobs where mistakes are easy and consequences are annoying.
At Cowal Accountants, I offer a simple, fixed-fee payroll service that covers all the essentials—so you can get on with running your business without worrying about PAYE codes, submission deadlines, or getting something wrong.
Every payslip is calculated clearly. I’ll tell you exactly what to pay and when. If you’re new to employing people, I’ll walk you through what’s required—step by step—and help you stay compliant from day one. And if it’s just you as the director, I offer a reduced rate payroll package that keeps things tidy and above board, without unnecessary cost.
Just like with every other service, you won’t be passed off to someone else or forced to learn a new system just to ask a simple question. You deal with me—and I deal with it.
In addition to core services like accounts, tax, VAT, payroll and bookkeeping, I also support new businesses getting started, landlords managing property income, and business owners looking for one-off advice or a second opinion. If you’re not sure what you need yet, that’s completely fine—just get in touch and I’ll help you figure it out.
